The center run Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi inaugurated India’s first dedicated department called as outpatient department for the transgender community that too on the occasion of Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s birthday on this Sunday.

This initiative was started in order to alleviate the difficulties which are encountered by members of all the transgender community in order to access all sorts of health care services, largely due to the discomfort and the fear of the discrimination and social stigma.

The hospital has also organized a blood donation camp in order to mark PM Modi’s 73rd birthday. Dr Ajay Shukla who is also the hospital’s medical superintendent has Inaugurated the special OPD and also the blood donation camo. He even said that this is especially dedicated to OPD service which will be available to all the transgenders every Friday from around 2PM to 4PM and there will even be a separate registration counter for all of them.

At this India’s first dedicated OPD for transgenders they will even be provided with an endocrinology facility with the hormone analysis and free hormonal treatment which is a psychiatry facility with the clinical psychological assessment and also the plastic surgery according to Dr. Shukla.

Even the dermatology, urology and pediatrics services and al related blood investigation will even be made available at the OPD and adding that it will have a gender neutral or transgender washroom facility.

According to the medical superintendent upon enquiry in various quarters he found out that people from the transgender community mostly seek for the treatment in the private health care facilities.

Also, many cannot even afford the cost of the treatment at many of the private facilities they are devoid of the medical care altogether.

According to Dr. Shukla government hospitals need to be accessible for each and every section of society and this is considered as the motivation behind opening of a separate OPD in order to provide the healthcare services for all the transgenders.

Thus, it is indeed considered as the matter of a great joy for the entire transgender community as such a known hospital is starting a separate and special OPD examination room and even a helping window for all the transgender community.
