The former Prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has been a constant presence in the news since a long time. Initially it was for cricket as he was helping the Pakistan cricket team reach heights that they had never seen before. Then, he entered the news again as he became the captain of the cricket team and later, for becoming the Prime Minister of the nation. But it didn’t end there. Today, he is under media scrutiny for the charges against him.

Imran Khan has himself said in an interview with Al Jazeera that 85 cases have been filed against him. He further added that ever since he was removed from his position of power, new reports have been made against him almost everyday. Some of the charges against the former prime minister of Pakistan include, charges of corruption, terrorism, rioting and blasphemy.
Cops arrived to arrest Imran Khan but there were no signs of him
A team of officers from the Islamabad police reached Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore to arrest him but he was no where to be seen. While the police believed that he was evading arrest, the former prime minister made a surprising tweet against prime minister Shehbaz Shariff and former army chief General Bajwa. “What future can a country have when crooks are thrust as rulers upon it? SS was about to be convicted by NAB for Rs.8 bn money laundering & by FIA for another Rs. 16 bn corruption when he was rescued by Gen Bajwa who kept getting NAB cases trial postponed. While under trial he was made PM. He has since proceeded to select heads of those institutions investigating his cases – first FIA & now NAB – simply to get his name permanently cleared in Rs.16 bn corruption & Rs.8 bn money laundering cases against him. This is how a country becomes a banana republic.”
The Islamabad police went to Imran Khan’s house but instead of him, they were faced with protestors who warned that they would launch a nation wide protest if the former Prime Minister were arrested. Amidst this, Imran Khan called his legal team for a meeting and later addressed the nation via a press conference, stating that his legal team will write to the chief justice asking for a public trial of his case.
Why is there a warrant for Imran Khan’s arrest?
The court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran Khan since he refused to show up at court hearings for the Toshakhana case. This case involves official gifts from foreign officials and delegates being kept without paying any money to the repository.
The police are trying their hardest to arrest the former Prime Minister but in the meanwhile, he keeps stating that all the charges against him are false and have no basis.
