Motorcade Rehearsal Ahead Of G20 Meet Causes Massive Traffic Jams In Delhi

Earlier in the day, police told people that traffic will be congested in numerous districts of New Delhi till 2 p.m. and encouraged them to plan their route accordingly.

Commuters encountered difficulties on Tuesday as they were trapped in heavy traffic in central Delhi owing to the motorcade practice for the G20 Summit by Delhi Police. Earlier in the day, police told people that traffic will be congested in numerous districts of New Delhi till 2 p.m. and encouraged them to plan their route accordingly. “Some traffic congestion is expected on Bhairon Marg, Bhairon Road – Ring Road, Mathura Road, C-Hexagon, Sardar Patel Marg, and Gurgaon Road until 2 p.m. due to carcade rehearsal and special traffic arrangements.” “Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly,” warned the traffic police in an X post.

Other traffic segments that saw congestion on Tuesday were the Outer Ring traffic near Indraprastha Park, C-Hexagon, and Sardar Patel Marg. Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj took aim at Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena over the city’s traffic congestion. “I don’t understand what Delhi Traffic Police has done, Delhi people are facing traffic jams everywhere. This police function was the only thing which LG saab had to handle, but it’s causing lot of inconvenience to common people of Delhi (sic),” Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on X.

Ankita Singh, who was driving from Noida to Delhi, said traffic was higher than normal on the Outer Ring Road at Indraprastha, and Vikas Marg was also clogged. It took her almost one hour to reach her location, which normally takes approximately half an hour. Another commuter, Ishita Singh, who was traveling from Gurugram to Chanakyapuri in Lutyens’ Delhi, claimed she, too, was stopped in traffic, which was exacerbated by road repair work at Sardar Patel and other areas. Commuters also complained about traffic congestion on Africa Avenue Road, Sarita Vihar near Zakir Hussain College, and the Bhera Enclave underpass.
