Born in 1986, Sania Mirza began playing tennis at the age of six and started a professional career in 2003. Over the years, she has been a doubles world no. 1 and earned multiple major titles.

Sania Mirza bids goodbye to tennis after last match in Hyderabad
On March 5, 2023, Sania Mirza bid adieu to her tennis career as she played her last few matches in Hyderabad. It was extremely important for her to end her career right where it first began — her hometown, Hyderabad. On that day, she played a few exhibition games with Rohan Bopanna, Ivan Dodig, Cara Black, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, and Marion Bartoli. Later, she addressed the crowd in near-tears, as she was visibly emotional about her two-decade long career coming to an end.
She said, “I am thankful to each and everyone for the kind of send-off given to me today. I couldn’t have asked for a better farewell. It all began here in 2002 when I won medals in the National Games. Then in 2004, I won my first WTA title (doubles). As someone said, it has been a one-handed drive for me. Yes, it has been an honour to represent the country at the highest level for 20 long years.”
MC Stan and Yuvraj Singh also attended the farewell.
The rising star, MC stan, gave a live performance on the occasion and the event was also attended by cricketer, Yuvraj Singh. He was there to witness this historic event and he even played a match in order to honor Sania’s amazing career.
While it is extremely saddening to see such a great tennis player like Sania Mirza retiring, we all can take some comfort in the fact that she has been an absolute icon and a legend ever since she started playing professionally. Her career will always be regarded as one of the best.
