Joslyn Stinchcomb, a 15-year-old resident of Barrow County, Georgia, was out for a walk in her Winder neighborhood on a Friday afternoon when her leisurely stroll suddenly turned into a terrifying ordeal. During a supposedly peaceful outing, Joslyn unexpectedly became the target of a relentless pursuit and assault. The harrowing experience ultimately landed her in intensive care at an Atlanta hospital, where she fought for her life.

According to a Barrow County Sheriff’s report, a call was received after a witness observed Joslyn being pursued and assaulted by two pit bulls. As the dogs caught up with the girl, they launched a brutal attack, leaving her helpless and injured, until a sheriff’s deputy discovered her lying face down near a curb. When the deputy arrived, one dog had hold of Joslyn’s neck while the other was biting her head.

“She was coming around the cul-de-sac and the dogs just attacked, no provocation at all,” Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said, according to WSB-TV.

Upon exiting his vehicle, the deputy was immediately approached by one of the dogs. According to Classic City News, the dog was wounded when it was shot in the head and subsequently ran away. According to the police report, the other dog let go of the girl and fled the scene. Regrettably, though, the harm had already been done.

Joslyn received immediate medical attention from paramedics and was quickly transported to Grady Memorial Hospital by helicopter. Three days after the attack, she remained in critical condition, bravely battling for her life. Charity Stinchcomb Montgomery, who is speaking on behalf of the family, shared that Joslyn’s trachea was severely damaged, leading to the need for a tracheostomy and ventilator support.

“Joslyn’s trachea was crushed and lacerated. She had surgery to repair it but it will take weeks to heal. In the meantime a trach has been out in place and she is on a vent to breathe for her,” Montgomery shared on Facebook.

The teenager, who attended Winder-Barrow High School and played the flute in the Bulldoggs marching band, unfortunately experienced the loss of her hair when one of the dogs attacked and tore off her scalp. The family is skeptical about her hair ever growing back. Additionally, she endured lacerations on her face and body, resulting in significant nerve damage that could potentially impact her ability to smile, blink, and make other facial expressions, as reported by the girl’s aunt.

“Those murderous dogs also grabbed her hair hard enough to pull her entire scalp off. She only has a small portion of skin left on her head. At this moment she does not have any hair left. She will never have her hair again,” Montgomery wrote. “There may be implants and things that can be done, but it will be over a year before those discussions can even begin.”

Furthermore, Joslyn experienced a severe injury to her ear, which required doctors to perform a reattachment procedure. However, it remains uncertain whether the ear will fully recover and if Joslyn will regain her hearing. According to Montgomery, it is uncertain whether she will regain hearing in that ear.

It is truly disturbing to see the extent of the injuries that suggest Joslyn Stinchcomb fought desperately for her life during the attack. Montgomery revealed a disturbing image of what Joslyn went through, describing how she has asphalt in the tips of her fingers as if she tried to escape from the dogs.

Two days following the violent assault, doctors also uncovered a blood clot in Joslyn’s jugular vein. Montgomery expressed that there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding her injuries, but the family remains hopeful that God’s healing power will be able to assist her. They are requesting prayers from people worldwide as Joslyn prepares for intensive therapy and surgeries to address nerve damage in her face, vocal cords, and airway.

The dogs responsible were eventually found at their owner’s residence and were taken into custody by Barrow County Animal Control. They were later euthanized. The sheriff reported that they managed to flee through an unlocked rear door. According to the report, the owner, 29-year-old Alexandria Torregrossa, was arrested for reckless conduct upon her return home.

“She was charged with reckless conduct, two dogs running at large, two counts of biting and attacking,” Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said. “Gruesome attack. Very tragic for this young lady and her family,” he added, reminding others to keep dogs leashed or appropriately confined.

Meanwhile, while the family sought assistance with their medical expenses, fraudulent GoFundMe campaigns began to emerge, revealing the disturbing depths of our society. “These accounts have not been approved by my parents (Joslyn’s guardians),” Joslyn’s aunt wrote on Facebook, cautioning others. Just a friendly reminder. It’s unfortunate that some individuals may exploit Joslyn’s tragedy for their own benefit. Unfortunate, indeed.
