Welfare Queen Arrested When Cops See Her Facebook And Loses Benefits.

Claiming she couldn’t even afford to eat, a woman was getting over $230,000 in taxpayer benefits for years. However, the police wasted no time, arrested her, and canceled her free ride as soon as they came upon what she uploaded on Facebook.

The arrested Carina Reid, 32, had a successful career as a model for five years, showing next to luxury vehicles and at the openings of high-end boutiques. This is probably the reason it was so strange when she collapsed into a pit of financial misery, losing everything she owned and struggling to even pay for food. Of course, the truth eventually surfaced quite quickly.

Reid was living in a luxurious UK apartment on Chelsea’s sought-after King’s Road while claiming to be completely poor. Amazingly, she had obtained the apartment by making a $25,800 deposit—a feat for even very wealthy people. This led one to wonder if the struggling model was not being totally honest.

Reid had an apartment in West London, but it was the first of several red flags: she accumulated more than $64,000 in housing benefits. But once the authorities saw what the young beauty was sharing on Facebook, they moved fast to make sure she could no longer pick up her welfare checks.

The Daily Mail claims Reid was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison after the Isleworth Crown Court decided she claimed benefits totaling $232,564, which she used to support an incredibly extravagant lifestyle. Reid was only caught when researchers came across posts she had posted about herself on vacation in several countries, helicopter rides, champagne drinking, and dining at the most upscale gourmet restaurants.

Reid filed for benefits from Kensington and Chelsea Council, claiming that she didn’t make enough from her work, even though she owned a beauty company called Enhance Medica and had a successful career as a model-for-hire, the Evening Standard reports. But her benefits were also flourishing, along with her company.

A profile of Reid on the Enhance website said she was a “senior medical aesthetician” who had “worked with a wide range of clientele, from VIP film stars, TV and radio presenters as well as on magazine shoots and
 celebrity events.”

Reid foolishly recorded her expenditures on Facebook, including a trip to Dubai, where she bought an apartment for $150,000 in taxpayer benefits. She split up her over $230,000 in welfare into 19 separate bank accounts in an effort to stay under cover.

Reid’s taxpayer-funded exploits carried her all over the globe, including luxury vacations in Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, France, and Hong Kong. Reid bemoaned, of course, that she had to eat food from her neighborhood mosque in order to survive when she got home. She was boasting about her extravagant spending on Facebook under the name Cara Delmonte at the same time.

In February 2014, she went skiing in Davos and posted: “It’s bloody hard. I’m aching but surviving. Might give snowboarding a whirl too.”
During a trip to Macau, Hong Kong, she wrote: “Getting over the pool party yesterday so relaxing and chilling with millionnaires drinking champagne and Pimms!”

Ironically, Reid was able to get a mortgage based on actual tax returns, indicating that her beauty company was doing great. Sadly, it took the anti-fraud team of the council far too long to find her scam.

Reid finally entered a 3-year prison sentence after confessing to 9 charges of dishonestly claiming tax benefits and housing. Her case records one of the harshest penalties ever given in London for welfare fraud.

Andreja Oblak, 31, a barista at a coffee shop opposite Enhance’s outlet in Old York Road, said: “I can’t believe it. She always seemed so polite and sophisticated. I can’t believe she was such a scammer and she was ripping us all off to pay for her lifestyle.”
A neighbour at her block in Kings Road said: “It’s a shock. We barely saw her because of her jetset lifestyle. She was always partying and just gave the impression of being very successful.”

The council decided she had only been overpaid about $66,000, implying the rest of the benefits were deserved even with her sophisticated way of life. Still, none of the money has been recovered or is expected to be fully repaid, even with her jail sentence.

Reid’s complex fraud is forcing the taxpayers to pay for her misbehavior. Unfortunately, the money won’t go to those who really need welfare payments to get back on their feet.

Reid went into prison, but many believe her sentence was insufficient. Though she is no longer jet-setting the globe, some have noted that she is still living for free on the taxes paid by others.
